Step 2: Identify All Energy Control Points

 

1910.147(c)(5)(iii) - Energy Source Identification; Synopsis of Requirements

 

Tagout devices shall warn against hazardous conditions if the machine or equipment is energized. Additionally: OSHA 1910.333(e) and (f) require that all disconnecting means show the magnitude and shall be legibly marked to indicate the purpose, unless located and arranged so the purpose is evident.

 

ANSI Z244.1-2003, Control of Hazardous Energy, states that all energy isolating devices should be adequately labeled or marked unless they are located so that their purpose is clearly evident. Identification shall include the following:

 

  • Machine, equipment, process supplied
  • Energy type and magnitude
