Technical Data Sheet

BRADY B-521 HIGH TEMPERATURE LABEL

TDS No. B-521
Effective Date: 21-Feb-2000

Description:
B-521 is a woven glass cloth with a silicone pressure sensitive adhesive and a non-printable topcoat available in green, red, white, purple and yellow.

B-521 is recommended for high temperature work in process identification.

B-521 adheres strongly to glass and a variety of metal surfaces. The flexible label is designed to withstand harsh temperatures, and acidic and alkaline environments often encountered in manufacturing processes. The label is pressure sensitive at room temperature and becomes permanently affixed to objects at temperatures above 400°C.

PERFORMANCE PROPERTY
FURNACE RAMP STUDY
B-521 labels were applied onto glass microscope slides and placed in a high temperature oven. The oven ramps up to 450°C, where it dwells for 45 minutes. During this time, the B-521 label becomes fused (ceramicized) to the glass. The ramp rates were varied and the end result of the firing process was recorded.

OVEN RAMP-UP RATES
RESULT
Ramp = 6°C/minute pass, firing is good
Ramp = 8°C/minute pass, firing is good
Ramp = 10°C/minute pass, firing is good
Ramp = 12°C/minute fail, moderate blisters
Ramp = 14°C/minute fail, moderate blisters
In order to form a permanent bond between the label and the glass, the recommended heating rate is less than 12°C/minute. Rapid temperature increases may result in label failure.

Testing was performed on both nonfired and ceramicized labels. Ceramicized labels were fired with the 8°C/minute ramp cycle.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE

Test performed on both nonfired and ceramicized labels. Testing consisted of a three minute immersion in the specified chemical reagent followed by 10 light brush strokes with a soft bristled brush. All reagents were tested at room temperature. Ceramicized labels were fired with the 8°C/minute ramp cycle.
